In the 2023 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers were one of the best teams in the league, if not the best, on both sides of the ball. Kyle Shanahan’s club was a defensive and offensive powerhouse that advanced to the Super Bowl to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 49ers may not have been able to defeat Patrick Mahomes and company in overtime during the Super Bowl, but they are still arguably the most talented team in the NFL. That status is likely to hold going into the 2024 season, which begins on September 9 for San Francisco when they host the New York Jets, led by Aaron Rodgers, in Week 1.
The 49ers extended superstar running back Christian McCaffrey’s deal by two years at $19 million per year during this NFL offseason in an attempt to keep this club cohesive and happy going forward.
The longtime Pro Bowl player, McCaffrey, gave his reaction to the new contract to the media after it was announced on Tuesday, via 95.7 The Game.
McCaffrey declared, “I’m really fired up that I’m staying.”
With so many low-paid running backs entering the NFL in recent years, the running back position has become less valuable. However, the 49ers made a wise decision by offering McCaffrey an extension, as it helped to calm his concerns.
As long as McCaffrey can continue to be healthy and effective in San Francisco, the veteran back is invaluable to the team. He is currently considered to be the top running back in the game.
