Newcastle are pushing to make a bold signing in the summer 2024 transfer window, as they are set on replacing one of the better goalkeepers in the Premier League, Nick Pope.
What Newcastle have come to realize with Pope is that they cannot come to rely on him as their main option because of injuries, and they are also of the belief that there is no such thing as having too much healthy competition.
Newcastle have zeroed in on Valencia phenom Giorgi Mamardashvili as their preferred option to replace Pope – or at the very least push the England international for starts immediately in 2024/25.
According to a report from COPE out of Spain, Newcastle have submitted an opening offer of 41 million euros to Valencia in order to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili.
It is a fair opening offer for one of the best goalkeepers in European football and certainly one of the best young goalkeepers in the world.
Mamardhashvili has been a regular starter for Valencia since the 2021/22 season, in which he saved 76 percent of the shots he faced across 18 starts.
Since then, Mamardashvili has consistently stopped more than 70 percent of the shots he has faced, setting up a track record of multiple years of success, which is exceedingly rare for a 23-year-old goalkeeper.
So you can see why Newcastle are so keen on signing Mamardashvili permanently and believe in the Georgian goalkeeper as an upgrade on Pope.
An offer of 41 million euros is a fair price for Valencia, because it shows that Mamardashvili is a top goalkeeper and valued as such by Newcastle, who can easily afford to spend that kind of money on a sure-fire starting keeper who is an investment in the efuture.
If anything, 41 million euros is a better deal for Newcastle, considering Mamardashvili’s youth and what he has already accomplished in LaLiga.
