Nathan Ferguson, a defender hampered by injuries, was let go by Crystal Palace, but Nathaniel Clyne inked a new deal that would last until 2025.
The 33-year-old former England international, who attended the Palace academy, has made 219 appearances for the Eagles’ senior squad. This season, he made 23 appearances.
After signing from West Brom in 2020, Ferguson, 23, was only able to play for eight minutes during his four years with the club due to a series of very bad ailments. The club expressed its desire to “place on record its thanks” for Ferguson’s release.
Additionally, Palace disclosed that a new contract has been extended to 30-year-old goalie Remi Matthews. Despite playing just once this season—a three-minute cameo off the bench in December’s 2-1 home Premier League loss to Liverpool—he is yet to formally accept it. Sam Johnstone’s injury kept him off the field.
The Eagles announced last month that experienced center-back James Tomkins and midfielder Jairo Riedewald would be departing the team when their contracts expired this summer.
Under new manager Oliver Glasner, who took over for Roy Hodgson in February, Palace won six of their final seven games to complete the season in 10th place in the Premier League.
