Kompany’s exit stunned the footballing world as he managed only five top-flight wins all season. But his departure now leaves Burnley with a void to fill – and ex-Toon boss Pardew was rumoured to be in the frame.astle United manager Alan Pardew has admitted he would consider an approach from Burnley if the call comes.

Reports suggested the Clarets were set to approach the 62-year-old about the vacant hot seat. Burnley recently banked around £10million from Bayern Munich for Vincent Kompany just weeks after Premier League relegation.

He has been out of work since leaving Greek outfit Aris in 2023. Pardew – who guided Newcastle to Europa League football 12 years ago – last managed in England with West Bromwich Albion.

That spell in 2017-18 ended with a crushing relegation but he remains confident another opportunity will come. When grilled about the links, Pardew dismissed how close he is to joining Burnley but outlined his potential interest if asked for an interview.

“Well it obviously isn’t me (set to take charge imminently),” he told talkSPORT. “Otherwise it would be officially announced! It’s nice to be linked with them if nothing else.

“I think the squad is good enough, the ownership is well organised and they have finances to – maybe they’re in a better position than Leicester were last year to rebound. So I think whoever gets the job, it’s going to be a great opportunity.

“For myself, it’s a great challenge that I would like to do because I’d like to take a team back to the Premier League. I did it, I set teams up to go back to the Prem. West Ham, Southampton. So yeah, I would be open to it.”
