Four Championship rivals of Leeds United are considering a summer transfer for Ian Poveda. This month marks the end of the winger’s stay at Elland Road.
After the Whites decided not to extend Poveda’s contract, he will depart the team as a free agent. After joining United in 2020, the Colombian international is searching for a new team.
Poveda was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday for the second part of the previous season. Under Danny Röhl’s guidance, he thrived as the Owls executed one of the most spectacular comebacks in Championship history.
On Wednesday, South Yorkshire-based sources verified their desire to permanently resign Poveda. His striking performances in the colors of the Owls won him over the fans right away. Poveda was only able to participate in 10 games due to injuries.
However, Wednesday will probably have fierce competition this summer to sign Poveda. According to reports, the midfielder is highly admired by Cardiff City, West Bromwich Albion, and Luton Town.
Poveda would reunite with Carlos Corberan, whom he had briefly collaborated with at United, when moving to the Hawthorns. After Poveda signed with the Whites in January 2020, high expectations were placed on him.
Poveda, on the other hand, found it difficult to have an effect, appearing in just 30 United first team games overall. He was loaned out to Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers as he fell down the ladder for a starting position.
