This summer, Nottingham Forest may decide to rearrange their attacking lineup, possibly turning to a well-known player.
The future of striker Taiwo Awoniyi is under scrutiny before the transfer window opens on Friday. West Ham United has shown interest in him, and it appears the Reds are keeping a look out for a possible successor in the event that the Nigerian international departs.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest are prepared to “listen to offers” for Awoniyi. And if they let him go, a move for Ben Brereton-Diaz would be considered.
Brereton-Diaz left the City Ground for Blackburn Rovers in a £7 million deal in January 2019, having initially made the move on loan. He featured 57 times for the Reds and scored nine goals.
He left Ewood Park as a free agent last summer and put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Villarreal. A matter of months after his switch to Spain, he then joined Sheffield United on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season.
The 25-year-old netted six goals in 16 appearances for the Blades but was not able to prevent the club from being relegated. One of his strikes came against his former side as he opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Forest went on to secure a crucial 3-1 win at Bramall Lane last month.
That day, after a period of time off the field, Awoniyi came off the bench. Despite being limited by injuries throughout his two years at Trentside, the front man has contributed many important goals.
Awoniyi was questioned about his future with the team before the Reds were certain of their safety. Despite having three years left on his deal, he seemed to be considering a move.
“That’s a tough one; I am definitely here because I am still under contract at Nottingham Forest,” he remarked. I play for Nottingham Forest at the moment.
