Rangers have apparently established an asking price and are willing to allow Sam Lammers to depart Ibrox this summer.
Lammers was acquired by the Gers from Atalanta last summer for an estimated £4 million. He has been a huge failure at Ibrox, and in January Philippe Clement sent him on loan to FC Utrecht.
After returning to form in Holland, the striker broke a club record by scoring in seven straight games to cap off a stellar season.
FC Utrecht wants to sign him permanently in the summer, but their salary is too high. But after qualifying for the Champions League, FC Twente has increased their budget and is expressing a strong interest in signing him.
The Daily Record (8 June) reported that the Bears are want about £2.5 million for Lammers. It indicates that they are prepared to let him go for a loss of about £1.5 million, although Philippe Clement might have already made the audacious choice.
Sam Lammers is scheduled to leave Ibrox this summer.
Lammers has not done enough to win Clement over, even though he did well while on loan.
Rangers are looking to raise funds and create space for the Ibrox summer rebuild, and Lammers is likely to be sacrificed. He struggled for regular games under Clement, and it became very clear that the Gers boss didn’t fancy him at all.
It did not take the fans long to realise that it was a poor signing and that the player did not fit into the system. Clement quickly realised that he wouldn’t be able to get the best out of him, and thus sent him on loan in January.
A potential move to FC Twente makes sense for all parties involved. First of all, he has proven himself in the Dutch league, and thus, signing him is a no-brainer.
He could get to experience European football and would fancy a move if an offer came his way. From Rangers’ perspective, they will never recoup the money spent on him, so the Gers must accept this small loss and take whatever they get.
