There are rumors that Leicester City is planning a £15 million raid for Sean Longstaff of Newcastle United.

The Foxes’ top goal in their search for a manager is to find a replacement for Enzo Maresca. But as they get ready to return to the Premier League, they also have an eye on the beginning of the summer transfer market, which takes place on Friday.

The Mirror claims that City has been monitoring midfielder Longstaff for a number of months. They claim to be prepared to convert that interest into a more tangible endeavor at this point.

It is said that a bid of £15 million is being “prepared” for the 26-year-old. Despite manager Eddie Howe’s respect for the player, he still has a year left on his St. James’ Park contract, and a deal “holds appeal” for the Magpies.

Additionally, it’s possible that Kelechi Iheanacho is heading in the other direction as City watches the Newcastle player. The Mirror further states that the 27-year-old’s release was confirmed by the Foxes on Friday by publishing their retained list, indicating that the Magpies “may be interested” in him.

Before his departure, Maresca said City would have a “low-key” summer of business, meaning smart deals both in and out are required with a spending spree not an option. When it comes to improving the squad, the midfield looks to be the area requiring the most attention.

Like other Premier League clubs City are having to be mindful of their Profitability & Sustainability Rule calculations.
