Adam Idah, a striker for Norwich City, was set to join Celtic, but a deal has fallen through. According to Football Insider, new Canaries manager Johannes Hoff Thorup wants to see the 23-year-old in preseason before making a decision about his future.

The Republic of Ireland international played the majority of the previous season north of the border at Celtic Park, where he made an impact by scoring nine goals and dishing out two assists as Celtic won the Scottish Premiership for the third time in a row. In addition, the Hoops won the Scottish Cup after defeating their bitter rivals Rangers at Hampden Park. Idah scored the game-winning goal in the closing seconds.

Before making a decision regarding Idah’s future, Hoff Thorup, the recently hired manager of Norwich following a stint at Danish club Nordsjaelland, is reportedly eager to see the striker in action. Idah, though, is reportedly Brendan Rodgers’ team’s main goal as they prepare for another European campaign and attempt to hold onto the Scottish Premiership.

Football Insider is stating that Celtic will not wait around for the Championship team to make a decision over Idah’s future, as the Glasgow giants are apparently eager to finalize their summer hiring plans.

Under current Leeds United manager Daniel Farke, the striker, who is valued at £3.5 million by Transfermarkt, made his debut at Carrow Road in 2019. Since then, he has made 115 appearances for the Norfolk team, scoring 19 goals in the Premier League and Championship.

Idah, who has four goals in 25 caps for the Republic of Ireland, is under contract with Norwich City through the summer of 2028, so any trade is probably going to fetch a fair price. After the Canaries were relegated from the top division in 2022, Hoff Thorup will be trying to consolidate on the work of former manager David Wagner and return the team to the Premier League. Last season, the Canaries finished sixth in the Championship and lost to Leeds in the play-offs. But it’s unclear if Idah will participate in those efforts.

After being relegated to the second division, Norwich City will be looking to improve on a disappointing couple of seasons. A new era is underway at Carrow Road with the appointment of Hoff Thorup as manager and Ben Knapper as sporting director. Josh Sargent, Norfolk’s leading scorer from the previous campaign, has been linked to moves, thus retaining Idah could be essential to preserving a goal threat in the event that Sargent departs.

Nevertheless, Idah might find the opportunity to compete in Europe and win championships to be too alluring, therefore Norwich City might be in for a battle if Thorup decides he wants the Irishman to stay with the team.
