West Ham have earmarked a marquee signing to kickstart the Julen Lopetegui era
After saying farewell to David Moyes and appointing former Wolves and Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui in his place, West Ham United will usher in a new era next season.
Moyes leaves the Irons with a squad full of attacking talent and a ninth-place league finish. During his two stints at the club, Moyes turned the Hammers from relegation contenders to Champions of the Europa Conference League.
With 36 goal involvements between them in the league alone, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus stole the show the previous season.
West Ham is going after Premier League elites.
Many may view the West Ham ownership group’s decision to fire Moyes in favor of Lopetegui as ambitious, especially in light of the Spaniard’s long history of playing in Europe.
This goal appears to be matched by a pursuit of Raheem Sterling, the four-time Premier League winner who hasn’t been able to fully commit to struggling Chelsea.
West Ham is reportedly considering a move for the England international to enhance their already potent offensive line-up, according to TBR Football.
According to the source, Chelsea is eager to let go of Sterling, who is thought to be paid up to £300,000 a week, in order to free up cash for what is anticipated to be another busy transfer window for the previous Champions League winners.
Negotiations will undoubtedly become more challenging for Sterling, who has reportedly turned down offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. If Sterling wants to stay in England, he would probably have to take a significant price reduction.
The attacker was dropped from Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 team because to his poor record since joining from Manchester City in 2022, and his playing time at Stamford Bridge is still in jeopardy due to several young, exciting forwards who are starting to show promise.
