In two instances already, Eddie Howe has distanced himself from leading England when questioned about his future at Newcastle United.
Since Gareth Southgate has hinted at a change in leadership should the Three Lions fail to win Euro 2024, many feel his contract may expire later this year. After taking over as temporary manager of England, the 53-year-old has been in control for eight years.
Howe, the manager of Newcastle, would be the obvious pick to succeed him should he step down. For the past two seasons, he has been the highest-placing Englishman in the Premier League, which has made him the favorite of bookies.
According to The Northern Echo, Howe is the front-runner to replace Southgate, which might be disastrous for the Magpies. Since hiring the 46-year-old two and a half years ago, Newcastle has developed its infrastructure around him and supported him during a difficult stretch last season.
Toon executives are convinced that Howe is the right person to lead the Saudi-backed period to success. The Newcastle manager reiterated in 2022 that his primary focus will always be on “day-to-day coaching.”
Howe advised against ever saying, “No, it won’t be something I am interested in.” However, I have no intention of managing England in the near future. It’s all about Newcastle and improving this team.
“I’ve always mentioned that I enjoy being with the guys on the training field and the daily coaching that I do. You can’t have international football for extended periods of time. That’s not something I want to do right now in my life.
Howe has been questioned about his aspirations on the international stage by former Manchester United captain Gary Neville in recent months. The Toon chief again declined to put his name in the hat, although he did express interest in the future.
Howe told The Overlap, “I really enjoyed the atmosphere of watching the national team.” “England is my favorite country, and I really hope they win the Euros this summer.
I truly believe that England will win, and I adore Gareth Southgate. Personally, I’ve never given international football much thought. Who can predict what will occur down the road?
