Leeds United could still strike a deal for Joe Rodon but the Whites may have to wait towards the end of the summer window.
According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, a fresh agreement for the 26-year-old centre-back is a possibility.
Rodon joined Leeds on loan from Tottenham last summer and enjoyed a stellar 2023-24 season. He was sensational at the back, and forged strong partnerships, first with Pascal Struijk and later with Ethan Ampadu.
Had Leeds secured promotion to the Premier League, they would have definitely made an attempt already to sign him. But now they may have to wait until the end of the season to secure a fresh agreement.
Daniel Farke is short of options at the back and YEP reports that “a deal may be struck” to extend Joe Rodon’s Elland Road stay.
Leeds could face strong competition from a host of clubs, including Southampton, to sign Rodon.
It won’t be easy to sign Rodon this time
Rodon clearly enjoyed his time at Elland Road and he spoke many times about his desire to continue at the club, but the situation is beyond his control.
Spurs defender Ben Davies praised Rodon last season and hailed him as a terrific player. Rodon made 50 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last season, and the Whites are keen to have him back for next season.
Leeds are also keen to re-sign Connor Roberts, who joined the Whites on loan from Burnley in the January window.
The major problem with signing a player on loan is that the involvement is only short-term. Rodon proved to be a massive hit last season, and Leeds should do everything to get him on board.
Leeds should either look to sign him permanently or get him on loan with a view to making it permanent, and Spurs probably will not mind that.
Having said that, if they are really serious about getting Rodon back, leaving the deal late until the end of the window makes no sense at all
