A recent report claims that Leicester has joined Aston Villa in the competition to recruit a £25 million Champions League midfield player who is considered to be “exciting.”
After Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea earlier this month, the Foxes are currently without a manager; yet, they are still being linked to a number of players in anticipation of their Premier League comeback.
It appears that Carlos Coberan or Graham Potter will be the new manager in the dugout; the team intends to name their new manager prior to the start of the preseason.
While that process is underway, head of recruiting Martyn Glover has been working diligently behind the scenes to find targets. It has just come to light that Leicester and Aston Villa are competing to sign a highly-rated midfield player.
Aston Villa and Leicester City are in the running to capture Matteo Guendouzi.
Leicester City, the newcomers to the Premier League, are reportedly interested in Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to Il Messaggero via The Standard.
The Serie A team, who hope to recruit the former Arsenal player for £25 million, made him available this summer.
The “exciting” eight is also being pursued by Aston Villa and Newcastle, giving the East Midlanders fierce competition.
Villa are expected to be the favourites as Unai Emery already has a relationship with Guendouzi, having signed him for Arsenal.
Leicester City probably won’t have enough money until July.
Due to their probable inability to spend any money until the conclusion of the fiscal year later this month, Leicester will miss out on a number of goals.
They need to continue being frugal with their spending because they are on the verge of breaking the Profit and Sustainability standards.
As such, it seems very doubtful that they’d outlay £25m on Guendouzi’s signature unless he was still available in July.
