Rangers are working on a deal to bring Connor Barron to Ibrox, according to a fresh report from the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on its online version on 16 June that the Gers have “upped the ante” in their bid to sign Barron who is leaving Aberdeen on a free transfer at the end of this month.

A host of clubs, including Hellas Verona, Plymouth, Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea, showed interest in signing the out-of-contract midfielder.

It was reported earlier this week that the Gers are not close to signing the midfielder and that talks of a medical are premature.

However, it appears that Rangers have now made an improved offer to sign Barron, who is also considering offers from other clubs. He will make a decision shortly.

Rangers should secure move for Connor Barron

Aberdeen would receive around £525,000 in training compensation if the player moves abroad.

Rangers simply need to agree to a deal with Aberdeen or else take their chances at a tribunal if they sign Barron.

The Bears need to bolster their midfield areas this summer after they decided to release two experienced midfielders, John Lundstram and Ryan Jack, following the expiry of their contracts.

Philippe Clement is looking to add depth and quality to the side as he prepares a major summer overhaul. Three players have already arrived this month, and more will follow soon as Rangers gear up for a massive transfer window.

Barron is seen as a highly exciting midfielder who knows Scottish football very well. Rangers are trying to sign young talented players with a future resale value.

The Gers’ submission of an improved offer suggests that they are keen to land Barron at Ibrox and are ready to settle the deal with Aberdeen directly rather than go to a tribunal.

Rangers are also showing a keen interest in signing Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane, and they are close to securing his signature.
