Diego Llorente, a defender for Leeds United, is “in limbo” as Roma’s interest in signing him has reportedly waned, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The Serie A team “cooled” its attempts to bring the wanted Whites defender back to Rome following two loan stints, according to a report published in The Mirror’s print edition on June 19, page 47.

Prior to the Peacocks’ Premier League relegation, Llorente made his maiden trip to the Italian city in January 2023. He stayed at Roma with Rasmus Kristensen for the whole previous campaign.

Although it was anticipated that Kristensen would head back to Elland Road and Llorente would remain at the Stadio Olimpico, the most recent news from the Mirror indicates that both may be returning to West Yorkshire.

Leeds United’s Diego Llorente transfer news is a major setback.
With Llorente looking to be among the players most likely to leave after a reasonably successful stint in Rome, Leeds had intended to send several of last season’s loanees packing this summer [Gianluca DiMarzio].

It was undoubtedly more fruitful than Kristensen’s tenure in the Italian city; according to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Roma made it plain that Daniele De Rossi would not be inviting the Dane back for the upcoming campaign.

Even though a “gentleman’s agreement” had been reached to move Llorente permanently for a small cost this summer, it is unclear if Roma will stick to it in light of the most recent development [Roma News].

The Whites will be hoping that Roma rekindles their interest in signing Llorente on a permanent deal this summer in order to relieve some of the financial pressure that comes with playing in the Championship for a second straight season. Selling players who were not in Daniel Farke’s plans appeared to be one way to do this.
