Newcastle United supporters, who recently expressed that they would “absolutely love” to have Marc Guehi join them at St. James’ Park, may be thinking Anthony Gordon can perform like a magician in his role as a makeshift agent.

Guehi has become a possible summer target for Newcastle, as manager Eddie Howe is known to place a high value on defensive reinforcements. With an estimated price tag of over £60 million, the 23-year-old has had another fantastic season at the center of Crystal Palace’s defense and has drawn a lot of interest from teams throughout the Premier League.

Both Gordon and Guehi are now away representing England at the European Championships; the latter started and performed admirably in both of the games he started in the group stage against Denmark and Serbia. Gordon, a fellow countryman, has also been impressed by the center back and would support a move to Newcastle to join him.

In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT, Gordon said, “He’s top, he’s such a good player and I was glad the nation got to see him shine on that stage because he’s such a lovely guy and he deserves what’s coming to him.” Considering his height in relation to the strikers they put on, I thought he was amazing in that match [against Serbia].

“He was aggressive, winning every header, intercepting a lot of balls, and his main strength is his composure on the ball—he plays like a midfielder.” Thus, his pairing with Stonesy [John Stones] at the back is excellent for controlling a game. Guehi has played regularly for Palace for a few of seasons and has had numerous opportunities to see Premier League games across the nation. By the looks of things, the England defender also likes Newcastle, or at least their stadium.

When asked which venue he preferred to play in on The Lion’s Den, Guehi replied, “I’d say in the Prem, probably Newcastle, St James’ Park.” Simply put, the noise level inside is insane. St. James’ Park, most likely, because the fans make things so tough when we visit there.

Although it’s uncertain if Newcastle would make a play for Guehi, any effort would probably run against fierce opposition. A great performance at Euro 2024 would further heighten interest in the center-back, who has been watched by Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Newcastle is in need of additional center backs after a terrible injury crisis the previous campaign. Throughout the season, Howe was without Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, and Jamaal Lascelles for extended amounts of time; the latter two are anticipated to miss a significant chunk of the following campaign. Nevertheless, there is also a demand for greater deep strength.
