West Brom are interested in defender Moussa Diarra as he prepares to leave Toulouse, according to a report by French news outlet Foot Mercato.

West Brom are keen on luring the centre-back over to England as they gear up for the new Championship season. They made the play-offs last term under Carlos Corberan but were beaten at the semi-finals stage to eventual winners Southampton.

Diarra, 23, officially sees his contract at Toulouse expire at the end of the month and he will become available as a free agent. He will currently be weighing up his next move as he looks to embark on a new chapter in his career.

Foot Mercato claim the Baggies are one of a few teams in the frame for his signature along with fellow second tier side Norwich City. Marseille, Rennes and OGC Nice have also been credited with an interest so the player has a big decision to make.

West Brom eye defender

West Brom could see Diarra as someone to add more competition and depth to their defensive department.

The Mali international, who has three caps under his belt so far, has been on the books at Toulouse since he was a youngster.

He rose up through the academy ranks of the Ligue 1 outfit and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.

The Paris-born man penned his first professional deal back in 2019 and was initially a key player for the B team before breaking into the senior set-up.

Diarra has since made 103 appearances for Toulouse to date and has chipped in with a single goal from the back.

He helped them win promotion from Ligue 2 in 2022 and has since adapted well to life in the top flight.

What next?

Marseille, Rennes and Nice could all over him the chance to stay in France.

However, West Brom and Norwich City could try and bring him to a new country which may be something that attracts his attention.

The Baggies will be aiming for promotion to the Premier League again next year and will need to get their recruitment right over the course of the next couple of months.
