West Ham have approached Newcastle to inquire about signing Callum Wilson, according to The Chronicle.
The Hammers have already signed Brazilian forward Luis Guilherme in the summer transfer window, but Julen Lopetegui is looking to add more quality in the forward department.
The report (22 June) suggests that West Ham have made an approach to sign the 32-year-old striker in a cash deal and the next few days could be crucial.
Newcastle are facing a “big decision” with their number nine potentially heading for the exit.
The Magpies are reportedly in talks to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. If they manage to agree a deal for him, they will probably allow Wilson to leave.
Should West Ham move for Callum Wilson?
The England international does not want to leave St James’ Park this summer, but a move to West Ham won’t be a bad option either. He will stay play in the Premier League and a strong performance for the Hammers could get him into the England squad once again.
Wilson is a vastly experienced striker. He has scored 140 career goals and has a proven track record of scoring goals consistently. He scored 67 goals for AFC Bournemouth and is two goals shy of a half-century for the Toon.
Newcastle value the striker at around £18 million, and he has only one year remaining on his present contract. Given his age and contract situation, it looks highly unlikely that the Hammers would be paying that much money, but they could try to reach a compromise.
