Although Wrexham has made its first summer addition, Phil Parkinson will be eager to bolster his team in the coming days and weeks.
The first summer hire has joined Wrexham following their promotion to League One, which occurred more than two months ago.
Following an incredible loan season at the STōK Cae Ras previous season, supporters had been eager to see Arthur Okonkwo rejoin the team.
Now, Wrexham has pulled off a huge coup by permanently signing Okonkwo, who left Arsenal.
The gifted goalkeeper is a huge addition to Wrexham and their first window addition, having pledged his future to the club.
Although Phil Parkinson undoubtedly needs additional additions, one rumored target might end up joining a different League One team.
Exeter City want Wrexham target Josh Magennis
One of the first names linked with a move Wrexham this summer was Josh Magennis.
In May, there were rumors circulating that Wrexham had made approaches for three players who Wigan Athletic had let go this summer.
Magennis was among them, as was fellow forward Stephen Humphrys and left back Tom Pearce.
Despite having a tumultuous past with Magennis, Parkinson was eager for a reunion when they worked together at Bolton Wanderers.
In recent weeks, there have been fewer rumors of those players joining Wrexham, and Magennis is now drawing interest from other teams.
According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Exeter City is now interested in Magennis and is “expected” to make a deal.
This upcoming season, the Grecians will play Wrexham in League One, and they hope to sign Magennis to increase their offensive options.
Despite only scoring five goals in League One the previous season, Magennis, a 33-year-old international for Northern Ireland, is now predicted to stay in the third division with Exeter.
It currently appears unlikely that he will transfer to Wrexham, and his choice not to go to Wales may have to do with a recent contract decision.
Steven Fletcher may have ruled out Magennis move
Given that Magennis is a physically strong and seasoned center striker, the links to him were intriguing.
Ollie Palmer is already a player in that mold for Wrexham, and they are battling to hold onto Steven Fletcher as well.
It would have been a little odd to add Magennis on top of Palmer and Fletcher, but a lot would have rested on Fletcher’s future.
The Scot made a good impression on Wrexham last season, and in May he was offered a new deal to stay.
As of late, Fletcher has signed that contract, having recently inked a one-year extension.
Parkinson believes he doesn’t need both Magennis and Fletcher for the upcoming season, so that decision may have eliminated any chance of a deal for Magennis.
Now that it appears like Magennis will actually play in League One against Wrexham, Parkinson must be praying he doesn’t find the net at the STōK Cae Ras.
