According to Yankuba Minteh’s agent, Newcastle United have now confirmed that they will sell their young prospect this summer.
Newcastle United are one of the clubs considered at high risk to face PSR complications should they not commit to selling players before they make new signings during this summer transfer window.
The Magpies are all too familiar with exercising caution regarding investment and transfers since the Saudi-led takeover almost three years ago, and it is expected not to change over the coming weeks and months either.
Selling players will be the only way that Newcastle can reinvest and with several areas of the pitch lacking depth, there is no doubt that the club will be looking to offload assets to free up their budget.
As a result, it will come as no surprise to the St James’ Park faithful that Yankuba Minteh is one of the players to become collateral damage in Newcastle’s quest to boost transfer funds to spend ahead of next season.
The young player’s agent, Bakary Bojang, spoke out last night to confirm that Minteh will be making a move away from Newcastle imminently and permanently.
Bojang revealed to The Chronicle:
“It is correct that Newcastle are willing to sell the player if they receive a good offer. From our side, if Newcastle wants to sell and the sporting project is good we will definitely look at it. We are in communication with some clubs.”
“I can’t confirm clubs who are in communication with us. We have agreed terms with one of the clubs. So now the rest is with Newcastle.”
Will Newcastle sell Yankuba Minteh?
While Minteh is a fantastic young prospect for Newcastle United, it will be important for Eddie Howe to keep together large amounts of his most experienced and relied upon squad next season, especially those who are seen as valuable assets.
The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, Joelinton, Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman are all assets with huge potential to sell and would solve PSR problems in one single sale, however, for a club looking to regain their Champions League status it doesn’t make sense to let go of first team talent.
Over 27 Eredivisie appearances, Minteh – who was hailed “extremely dangerous” by former Feyenoord man Willem van Hanegem – scored 10 goals, registered five assists and created nine big chances, as well as averaging 2.1 shots on goal, 2.2 successful dribbles and five duels won per game, as per SofaScore.
It’s safe to say the teenager impressed and thrived whilst on his season-long loan with new Liverpool manager Arne Slot at Feyenoord, so much so that Newcastle expect to command a fee of around £40m should they agree to part ways in the coming days.
With that being said, the situation surrounding Minteh’s future will certainly divide opinion amongst Newcastle fans as he is obviously an emerging talent with plenty of potential, however, if funds are needed to tow the line, the club may find themselves with no choice but to sell.
