Leeds United still want to sign Joe Rodon on a permanent basis this summer after his stunning loan at Elland Road last term, and a new report shares how much he will cost.

Rodon, 26, moved to Elland Road on loan last summer after a disappointing spell with Tottenham after his move to Spurs under Jose Mourinho in 2021. A loan in France with Rennes didn’t get things going, either.

But with Gretar Steinsson joining the transfer department at Leeds alongside Nick Hammond from Spurs, Leeds instantly had a solid connection with the North London club and signed Rodon, and Djed Spence.

The latter didn’t work, but Rodon did. He clocked up 50 appearances for Leeds during 2023-24, becoming a leader and a key part of the side. But now, the “rapid” star’s future is unclear ahead of the summer.

How much Tottenham want to sell Joe Rodon as Leeds eye deal

Leeds failing to get promoted has plunged a move to re-sign Rodon into doubt. His form has attracted interest from all three of the newly-promoted clubs in the form of Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton.

Rodon of course has penned a contract extension at Spurs, a decision that was out of his hands. It means Daniel Levy can now request a bigger fee with his current deal no longer expiring in 12 months’ time.

Leeds need to sell this summer and it is unclear if the club will be able to spend big. But a report from The Sun (23/06, p55) explains that a fee of £10m will get the job done with Spurs willing to sell the defender.

What Graeme Bailey told us about Leeds chances’ of Rodon deal

With Rodon signing a new deal, Leeds unable to win promotion and the club needing to sell this summer, a deal for the defender seems unlikely. But Rodon loved his time at Leeds and has hinted at rejoining.

LeedsUnited.News spoke to transfer expert Graeme Bailey last week to get the latest on Leeds signing the defender and he said that while a deal will be difficult, it would be wrong to rule Leeds out of a move.

“It’ll come down to the player. It’ll be tough given the other three can offer football in the Premier League. It is going to be a tough sell for Leeds but I wouldn’t rule them out completely by any stretch.”
