Newcastle United are reportedly a step closer to signing 27-year-old English striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin from fellow Premier League club Everton.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The 27-year-old striker, who wishes to relocate to St. James’ Park during the summer transfer window, is getting close to joining the Magpies. They and Everton have not yet agreed on a transfer fee, but they are optimistic that they can complete the transaction.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and his Everton journey

Since switching from Sheffield United to Everton in August 2016, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s journey has been incredibly unpredictable. The Englishman’s reputation has declined over the past few years as a result of ongoing fitness problems, despite once being one of the Premier League’s greatest scorers.

The 27-year-old finished the 2023–24 season on a high note after putting in a lot of effort to regain his physical and mental acuity. Although Calvert-Lewin’s 38 games across all competitions yielded only eight goals and three assists, he did show some encouraging indications as the season came to an end.

The English striker, who will soon begin his final year of contract, will, however, have an uncertain future at Everton going into the summer transfer market. A number of Premier League teams, including Chelsea and West Ham United, have taken notice of this scenario. But Newcastle United will be Calvert-Lewin’s next stop.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Newcastle United’s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Callum Wilson. The veteran English international will likely leave Newcastle United in the summer transfer window after another injury-riddled campaign.

So, it behoves Newcastle United to sign a striker ahead of the 2024/25 season, with Calvert-Lewin emerging as a viable target. The latest report has revealed that the Magpies are a step closer to signing the 27-year-old English striker, although an agreement with Everton has yet to materialise.

Confidence is growing in the Newcastle United camp, with Eddie Howe eager to bring Calvert-Lewin to St. James’ Park. It will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day, with the Englishman ready to end his association with Everton.
