According to a new rumor this weekend, Premier League team Nottingham Forest has put in a bid of £16.9 million to buy a Leeds United player ahead of the summer transfer season.
Paraag Marathe, the chairman of Leeds, has already stated that the team will have to offload players this summer. It follows rumors that Leeds must abide by Financial Fairplay regulations and owes £190 million in player moves.
Players like Archie Gray, Ilia Gruev, Crysencio Summerville, and others have been connected to leaving this summer. To the ire of Leeds supporters, Marathe has even left the door open for the potential sale of Gray.
However, Willy Gnonto is one player who is most likely to depart Elland Road in the upcoming days, weeks, and months. The winger boycotted three games last summer in an attempt to get out of the Yorkshire club.
Nottingham Forest table £16.9m bid for Leeds United player
In fact, the 20-year-old Gnonto did not participate in the Cup matchups against Shrewsbury Town and Birmingham City as well as West Bromwich Albion. However, he came back into the fold under Daniel Farke, albeit in a supporting role at first.
He was one of several players that joined Patrick Bamford, Junior Firpo, and Gruev in the squad in January. During the second half of the season, he was Leeds’ first choice and scored nine goals.
However, he fell short of the initial excitement surrounding the Premier League’s 13-time Italy player. People think Gnonto is capable of much more, and according to Africa Foot, Forest has put in an offer.
Forest not the only club interested in signing Leeds man Gnonto
Forest reportedly made an offer of £16.9 million to capture Gnonto and expressed their “strong interest” in luring the Italian to The City Ground for the summer. Although Leeds hasn’t responded yet, a decision is anticipated shortly.
Not just Forest is rumored to be interested in signing Gnonto. According to reports, the athlete is eager to return to his own country, and boyhood club Inter Milan is eager to acquire a homegrown talent.
It remains to be seen if Forest is a wise choice for Gnonto. There will be a lot of competition for him to play, including from Anthony Elanga, Nicolas Dominguez, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and other important Forest players.
