Simon Moore has disclosed that, prior to joining fierce rivals Sunderland in the Championship, he was given a high reference by Ben Wilson, a teammate at Coventry City.

After being cut loose by the Sky Blues this summer, the 34-year-old goalkeeper signed a two-year contract with a third-year option at the Stadium of Light on a free transfer. Anthony Patterson will be Moore’s top pick for understudy at first.

The former Sheffield United stopper, who spent three seasons at Coventry, spoke after becoming the Black Cats’ first summer addition. He stated that while he is eager to break into the first team, he is also ready to assist in the development of the team’s young goalkeepers and feels he can contribute significantly to both the

According to Moore, “I’m going to come in and give it my all,” according to the club website.

“I’ll train hard every day and make sure I’m ready if an opportunity does present itself.” Simultaneously, I will be available to Patto (Patterson) to assist him with any of my years of experience. I intend to attend because I want the football team to succeed. At the end of the day, it is what matters most.

“I’m very excited to collaborate with Patto. I had been observing him from a distance. He is one goalie that has attracted my attention during the last two games, and I have a good eye for them.

“Even before I came, Ben was talking about Sunderland all of the time,” said Moore.

“He said he had some fantastic memories from being here. He still loves the club; his family are still local and he has told me nothing but good things. He spoke really highly of Pruds (Mark Prudhoe, coach), who I’ve met now and he seems like a top guy, and a bit of a legend here so I am looking forward to bouncing off him as well. I’ve spoken to a few people about Alessandro the goalkeeping coach as well and heard nothing but good things about him too. Ultimately, I just want to come here, give me all for the football Club and help the lads go in the right direction.”
