Leeds United remain in the hunt to sign Canada forward Liam Millar, according to a report from The Athletic.

The popular website reported online on 25 June that the Whites have been tracking the 24-year-old left winger.

He enjoyed a successful loan spell at Preston North End last season, contributing five goals and five assists in 36 games, and Leeds are showing keen interest in signing him.

The winger has one year remaining on his contract with FC Basel with a release clause. His exit from the club is a “sure thing”, and it seems the player wants to join a club permanently after a series of loan spells elsewhere.

Possibly with that in mind, the Whites have been constantly tracking Millar who has made 27 appearances for the Canada national team.

Millar started his youth career with Liverpool and made only one senior appearance for the Reds. During that time, he played for Kilmarnock and Charlton Athletic on loan, before moving to Switzerland with Basel.

In three seasons at Basel, he has managed 13 goals in 96 games. He was impressive last season at Preston, and his performances have caught Leeds’ attention.

He has the ability to play on both flanks and could be a decent replacement for either Gnonto or Summerville, should they leave Elland Road. Moreover, with only one year remaining on his deal, Leeds have a good chance to sign him at a bargain price, although he does have a release clause.

Millar has never been a prolific goalscorer, but he can be a potent weapon if properly coached.
