West Bromwich Albion are set to complete their first signing of the summer transfer window as Torbjorn Heggem is undergoing a medical in the West Midlands, according to the latest reports.

The Baggies have been linked with several players already despite the market being open for less than two weeks. It has become quite clear that head coach Carlos Corberan is keen to bolster his attacking department before the new season commences in just a few weeks, hence why the club have been interested in the likes of Josh Windass at Sheffield Wednesday and even Leeds United star Ian Poveda, although the latter is reportedly close to moving to South Yorkshire on a permanent basis.

However, even with this need for Corberan to improve his forward ranks, West Brom’s first signing of the summer window will likely be a central defender. It was revealed by Swedish outlet Expressen earlier today that Brommapojkarna centre-half Heggem completed a medical today with the Baggies and will become a West Bromwich Albion player, provided the medical department gives the all-clear from his test results.

This news emerging from Sweden has been stood up by the Express & Star who have further added that the 25-year-old’s performances for Brommapojkarna left West Brom’s coaching staff impressed as they seek defensive reinforcements.

Heggem is quite a versatile defender. While the heart of the defence is his preferred position, he has experience playing at left-back, given he is left-footed, which improves this area of the pitch as Conor Townsend is the Baggies’ only option at left-back

It is unclear just how much West Bromwich Albion will pay for Heggem, but he currently has a market value of £420,000, as per Transfermarkt, and has a contract with the Allsvenskan side until the end of 2024 when the Swedish season ends.

Perhaps the Baggies will need to fork out around half a million, although this is purely guesswork. The fee is yet to be reported in the press, but Heggem could be a really solid addition to Corberan’s side as the club look to make another push for promotion next season.
