Wrexham have a first summer signing in through the door and fans can really start looking forward to pre-season and the League One campaign.

Not many clubs announce signings on Saturdays but Wrexham did just that last weekend.

Wrexham confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, landing the goalkeeper on a permanent basis.

Okonwko was superb on loan from Arsenal last season, quickly becoming a firm fan favourite at Wrexham.

Fans were desperate to see Okonkwo return, especially with his Arsenal contract coming to an end this summer.

Other clubs may well have been interested in signing Okonkwo but Wrexham have managed to pull off quite the coup.

Okonkwo is returning to the STōK Cae Ras on a three-year deal, handing Wrexham a first-choice goalkeeper and a potentially saleable asset for the future.

Arthur Okonkwo shares Rob McElhenney message

The first signing of the summer is in, Wrexham’s League One fixture list has now been announced and fans can look forward to some big pre-season games.

Wrexham will soon take on the likes of Bournemouth, Chelsea and Vancouver Whitecaps on a pre-season tour to North America.

These games will only continue to raise Wrexham’s profile in the States, which is already booming off the back of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have turned Wrexham into worldwide news and the friendlies this summer will give US fans a chance to watch Wrexham in action.

Okonkwo has now been asked about that trip after signing his deal, as seen on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel.

Okonkwo admitted that he is looking forward to some ‘big games’ this summer, especially after speaking to McElhenney.

The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ star has been reminding Okonkwo just how many huge Wrexham fans are over in the States, leaving the goalkeeper excited to turn out in front of them.

“We’ve got some big games and I know that Rob has made it very clear that there’s loads of big Wrexham fans out there,” said Okonkwo. “It will be good to see them, it will be a good support I hope,” he added

More Wrexham business needed

Okonkwo is an absolutely perfect start to the window.

Wrexham already know exactly what Okonkwo is all about and landing him on a permanent basis is pretty much a dream signing.

Wrexham must continue to chase more signings though with a number of positions needing some attention.

At least two centre backs are needed this summer with Wrexham allowing the likes of Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe to move on.

Free agent Marvin Ekpiteta is believed to be a target in that area of the pitch with Wrexham having already missed out on a deal for Wigan Athletic’s Jason Kerr.

A replacement for Luke Young will be needed in midfield too, whilst competition for Elliot Lee would be ideal – as would another left wing back.

Wrexham have made a great start to the window by securing Okonwko, but there is still plenty of work to be done.
