The Brandon Aiyuk saga with the San Francisco 49ers took an interesting turn this week with the star wide receiver calling out the team for a report that surfaced about general manager John Lynch and the front office trying to trade him to the Washington Commanders ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Obviously, with Aiyuk making his discontent public on social media, it wasn’t a good look for the team, and some believed it could derail contract extension talks, where the 26-year-old wants to be paid $30 million per season.
Details Emerge About Brandon Aiyuk’s Meeting With 49ers
The Brandon Aiyuk saga with the San Francisco 49ers took an interesting turn this week with the star wide receiver calling out the team for a report that surfaced about general manager John Lynch and the front office trying to trade him to the Washington Commanders ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Obviously, with Aiyuk making his discontent public on social media, it wasn’t a good look for the team, and some believed it could derail contract extension talks, where the 26-year-old wants to be paid $30 million per season.
With the 49ers and Aiyuk unable to see eye-to-eye on a lucrative long-term deal, it has seemed as though a trade is more likely than a deal getting done between the two sides.
However, that may no longer be the case, as Aiyuk requested a meeting with the team’s brass earlier this week to discuss the situation, and apparently, it was a pretty productive meeting, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network via 49ers on NBCS.
“Here’s what I can tell you. Aiyuk and 49ers brass met on Monday at Aiyuk’s request,” Pelissero said. “This was a good meeting. From what I was told, both sides said things that needed to be said, and they’re going to keep working.”
Although Aiyuk and the 49ers might be back on track to getting a deal done, it seems as though it wouldn’t take much for things to get derailed again moving forward.
