Nancy Froston reports that Leeds United will face “a lot of interest” from Premier League teams in their attempt to re-sign Joe Rodon.
On June 26, the new club writer for The Athletic made an appearance on the One Leeds Fan Channel. He revealed that the Welshman’s signature will be challenged by a number of Premier League clubs from lesser divisions.
Although Rodon performed admirably while on loan from Tottenham last season, making 46 appearances in the Championship, United’s inability to win promotion has made it unlikely that they will be able to sign him long-term [Football.London, 6 June].
“The issue is that when you have a player on loan and he plays so well, Premier League teams will be very interested in signing him,” Froston stated.
“And they will receive that sum of money simply for enjoying their Premier League membership.”
“Leeds are still interested in getting Rodon back. There may be some competition for him, but if they are successful, it will undoubtedly be well-liked.”
This summer, Leeds United’s main transfer priority is Joe Rodon.
With ninety points and the second-best defense in the Championship from the previous season, United destroyed Norwich 4-0 in the second leg of their play-off semi-final.
Rodon was by far the Whites’ best player at Wembley, but it wasn’t enough to get them promoted as they lost 1-0 to Southampton in the play-off final.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Daniel Farke’s team wants to bring the 26-year-old back to LS11 this summer [Phil Hay, 30 May]. However, given their inability to return to the Premier League and Rodon’s outstanding performances, doing so will be challenging.
Froston has mentioned that Southampton is among the clubs interested in a transfer that would seriously hurt Leeds’ feelings at Wembley, indicating that those performances have not gone unnoticed [WalesOnline, 9 June].
Although Rodon seems willing to return to Elland Road in the upcoming weeks, the Peacocks are by no means first in line financially to make Tottenham an offer [Yorkshire Evening Post, June 26].
