A headline member of the first-team setup at La Liga outfit Valencia on Wednesday continued to build on his reputation as one of the very best in Europe in his role.

The player in question? Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili, for his part, was back in action on the international front a short time ago.

In Georgia’s final group stage fixture at Euro 2024, they were faced with the daunting task of getting the better of star-studded Portugal.

And, incredibly, when all was said and done on perhaps the most famous night in the country’s footballing history, this is precisely what Georgia went on to manage.

Owing to goals on the part of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze, the evening’s underdogs put their heavyweight opponents to the sword by two goals to nil.

And, amongst a whole host of star performers, the aforementioned Mamardashvili was front and centre for a brilliant Georgia.

Though his goal was not exactly peppered with shots, the 23-year-old didn’t put a foot wrong all night, producing several top-class saves, and commanding his penalty area with poise and confidence.

Mamardashvili’s name has long taken its place in the headlines in Spain, as clubs from across the continent seek to lure him away from Valencia.

Money-laden Premier League outfit Newcastle United, for one, are thought to be particularly keen.

And on Wednesday, the Georgian only added ever further to both his stellar reputation, and ever-increasing price-tag.
