Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks with Aston Villa to sign rising star Lamare Bogarde and have tabled a £4m offer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on 23 June that Bogarde was the subject of significant interest by Forest and that the club were hoping to strike a deal with Villa by the end of the month, when clubs must declare their accounts to fall in line with PSR.

It is believed talks are advancing ahead of Sunday’s accounting cut-off.

The 20-year-old has only made one senior appearance for his current club to date which came in the FA Cup against Liverpool aged just 16, but played 35 times across two recent loan spells with Bristol Rovers in League One to gain valuable senior experience.

Aston Villa had previously intended to send Netherlands youth international Bogarde back to his homeland on another loan as reported by Football Insider [3 May], but the opportunity of a sale to Nottingham Forest will better benefit the accounts at Villa Park.

Nottingham Forest close in on Bogarde deal

Nottingham Forest are seeking Bogarde to add defensive cover and versatility to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, with Nuno Tavares’ option to buy from Arsenal not triggered and Murillo potentially having to depart to raise funds.

Argentina’s World Cup penalty hero Gonzalo Montiel has also departed following his loan in the Premier League, making the position an area of priority.

Primarily a left-back, Bogarde can operate both in defence and midfield, and would become Forest’s third senior signing of the summer after Marko Stamenic – already loaned to Olympiacos – and Eric da Silva Moreira.

The permanent sale of the Dutchman benefits Villa in the short-term which will make the deal easier to complete for Forest.
