Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly placed a bid for Flamengo fullback Wesley.

RTI Esporte reports that the Seagulls attempted to get the young player through his entourage and were prepared to pay €4 million for him.

But Flamengo declined the offer because he thought it was “below expectations.” There’s no word on whether Brighton will submit a fresh offer.

Wesley’s future at the Rio de Janeiro team isn’t guaranteed, but it will take a strong effort to sign him. Flamengo hasn’t even given the Portuguese team Famalicão much thought. In March, the same website claimed Brighton was preparing a €4 million bid for Wesley, which would have given Flamengo 20% of any future transfers. It appears the Seagulls may have put off trying to sign him for a few months, and now they know they’ll need more money. The player’s entourage is probably heavily involved.
