Goalkeeper Mason Munn has penned a new four-year contract at Rangers, to the delight of Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen.

The club made the news official via their official website on 26 June, amid the 18-year-old’s impressive performances for the B Team.

The under-19 Northern Ireland international joined the club in July 2022 and has now committed his future to the club until 2028.

Reacting to the news, Clement said: “We are delighted that Mason has committed his future to Rangers.

“It is recognition of his development in the Academy in recent years, and, as a boyhood Rangers fan, he is well aware of what it takes to represent this club.

“There is further improvement to come from Mason in the years ahead and we look forward to his continued development as an individual.”

Koppen, the Director of Football Recruitment, stated: “Throughout his development in the Rangers Academy, Mason has shown the necessary attributes along with the natural talent that is required by modern goalkeepers to give himself the best chance to continue his already strong progression.

“We are pleased that he sees his future at Rangers and, with the coaching, facilities and support staff here at the club, we believe he is in the perfect environment to develop.”

Rangers make right decision to retain Mason Munn’s services

The announcement is excellent news for the club as it secures the services of a promising young goalkeeper who has already shown great potential and is a regular fixture in the Gers B side.

His commitment to the club, despite being a boyhood fan, indicates his dedication and desire to develop further within its ranks.

The teenager has been lauded for his performances for the B Team on 1 May, BBC Scotland pundit Richard Foster saying: “What a save. What an unbelievable save.”

Moreover, Munn’s recognition of what it takes to represent the senior team and his potential for further improvement in the coming years is a positive sign for the club’s future.

With the coaching, facilities and support staff at Rangers, Munn is in an ideal environment to continue his development and potentially become a key player for the first team in the future.

Hopefully, many more younger players follow suit and commit their future to the club rather than looking at options elsewhere.
