It has come to light that Moussa Niakhate was given the opportunity to stay in the Premier League and is now scheduled to depart Nottingham Forest.

Niakhate, a defender for Forest, has now scheduled a physical before leaving, suggesting that he would sign with Lyon.

The 28-year-old has played for Forest for two seasons, having mixed results at the City Ground.

In the opening home game of the 2022–2023 season, he tore his hamstring off the bone after joining from Mainz in the summer of 2022.

He had an elbow dislocation prior to the previous season, and he had to contend with competition for playing time from Nuno Espirito Santo and Steve Cooper.

Forest has acted swiftly to prevent a points deduction as the most recent PSR cycle is about to expire.

Nottingham Forest man Moussa Niakhate rejected Premier League transfer

Niakhate is heading over to France tonight in order to complete his medical checks and sign for Lyon.

This one does come as a bit of a blow, as he is a central defender who has always given his best for Forest.

Niakhate reportedly turned down a transfer from Crystal Palace to sign with them, according to Foot Mercato.

Although Niakhate eventually prefers a move to Lyon, where he will team up with Orel Mangala, Lille, the Ligue 1 team, was also interested.

It appears that Niakhate will be confirmed as a Lyon player before the weekend, which will allow Forest to begin signing new players of their own.

Forest will require defensive reinforcements in the center.
There aren’t many left-sided options for Forest at the back, especially with Murillo reportedly interested in a move.

With any luck, this revelation will allow Forest to ease their concerns about Murillo and allow them to sell him only if the valuation is satisfied.

Fortunately, Forest hasn’t let the player go to a Premier League opponent, and he will now travel abroad to play football.

The only defensive alternatives left for Forest are Andrew Omobamidele, Willy Boly, and the much sought-after Murillo, so they will need to get busy in the market themselves.

Nonetheless, one cannot not but wish Niakhate well, as he consistently gave his all while wearing a Forest shirt.
