Before this Sunday’s 2023–24 Premier League Profitability and Sustainability (PSR) deadline, Yankuba Minteh is still free to depart Newcastle United.
It seems that Newcastle is under pressure to generate money by June 30 to avoid violating PSR, which permits teams to lose £105 million over a rolling three-year period. In the past few seasons, Everton and Nottingham Forest have both done this and received point deductions.
Reluctantly, the Magpies have been trying to clear out 19-year-old Minteh this week in order to cover any prospective deficit. Before it became known that Everton was his top choice, the 19-year-old’s agent Bakary Bojang told Chronicle Live over the weekend that personal terms had been agreed upon with an unidentified club.
However, talks between the two clubs stalled earlier this week when the Magpies called off their pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin due to the Toffees’ demands. It’s been suggested they put a £40m price tag on the striker’s head, despite him having just one-year left on his contract.
Since then, Minteh has been pushed toward Lyon; however, rumors have it that the winger is unwilling to talk personal terms with the French team, with a move to Goodison Park still very much on his wish list.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on X this morning, “Yankuba Minteh, one to watch in the next 24/48h as Newcastle are still trying to sell him due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.” The highest offer came from Olympique Lyon, but Minteh is still eager for Everton to move first. #NUFC and Minteh are in communication to decide quickly.
Minteh did state in an earlier statement this year: “My ultimate goal is to win the Premier League.” The team that has the most faith in me is Newcastle United. I don’t know what the future holds.
In fact, the Gambian hasn’t kicked a ball for Newcastle and probably never will. After spending £7 million to sign with Feyenoord from Danish team Odense Boldklub last summer, he was loaned to the team right away, where he made an impression with 11 goals in 37 games.
Regarding the possibility of losing Minteh, Newcastle supporters are divided. His worth might skyrocket in the upcoming years, but if he doesn’t reach his full potential, the Magpies might never get a better offer.
