As Roberto De Zerbi settles into his new role, Marseille is interested in Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier this summer. The Frenchman is eager to transfer.

Daniel Farke is undoubtedly excited to have his team back in training for the 24/25 season, and the Whites are very close to returning to preseason next week.

Key players will depart the club after missing out on promotion in order to balance the books, and interest is high.

Illan Meslier on Marseille’s radar this summer

According to a rumor from La Provence, Marseille, a team in Ligue 1, is interested in signing Illan Meslier from Leeds this summer.

Under recently hired manager Roberto De Zerbi, the French team is searching for a new goalkeeper, and Meslier is highly considered to replace departing Pau Lopez.

Meslier signed a long-term contract with Leeds in 2021 following an outstanding debut Premier League season. He is currently under contract there through 2026.

The article also indicates that Meslier is eager to leave Leeds following his inability to get promoted, and as a result, he is prepared to transfer to Marseille under De Zerbi, with negotiations already in progress:

The 24-year-old former international prospect is in fact in communication with Olympique, as Foot Mercato and La Provence have verified.

“After five seasons in Leeds, three of which were spent in the Premier League, he is excited about continuing his career in the south of France, even though the information gathering is still in its infancy and other formations make his eyes soft.”

Meslier should be cashed in on by Leeds

Even if he has been able to partially turn things around in the Championship, he has still been quite questionable in a couple EFL situations.

He hasn’t performed well enough to be retained even if there is potential for him to earn a sizable price.

The 49ers should be persuaded to sell him since it won’t be hard to find a better replacement given his income.
