Leeds United is in need of a “major” sale this summer, and Red Bull wants to bring Archie Gray to RB Leipzig, according to HITC.
The news agency stated on its website on June 28 that although the Whites are eager to hang onto the 18-year-old, a move to the Bundesliga is likely due to strong pressure from Borussia Dortmund and interest from Bayern Munich.
But Red Bull wants to send Gray to Germany with one of their other clubs in a move that would ease Leeds’ financial problems after they bought a minority part in the team earlier this summer [The Athletic, May 30].
Red Bull uses Leeds United’s problems to their advantage to sign Archie Gray?
Elland Road’s financial predicament has been overstated, but Gray remains one of the team’s greatest assets, and sales are still needed and anticipated this summer.
Summerville, a Dutch winger, is also anticipated to depart the team [Phil Hay, May 27]. However, his contract expires in two years, so his potential contribution is less than anticipated.
But, Gray signed a new deal last season, and at just 18, he should fetch a lot of money should he decide to go.
Premier League teams have also expressed interest in signing him, but Red Bull would at least keep him in the “family,” and Leeds would undoubtedly prefer to move him abroad if he were to depart in order to avoid playing against him frequently in the future.
This might blow up at any time because there is still a long way to go in the summer transfer season and Red Bull and the 49ers will always be in contact.
