Since today’s contract expiration, Bradley Dack and Corry Evans have officially left Sunderland.
Evans came to the club from Blackburn Rovers and made 67 appearances in three seasons. He was a key member of the team that was promoted from League One and later stabilized in the Championship. He leaves after just getting better from a serious ACL injury.
Evans and Dack, who left the team due to injuries sustained during their tenure, are two of the four senior squad members whose contracts expired this summer. The former Blackburn Rovers player, who only played one season at the Stadium of Light, was said to earn approximately £15,000 per week, making him one of the Black Cats’ highest earners.
Jack Diamond will depart after Sunderland decided not to renew his contract for another year after he was loaned to Carlisle United. The winger is currently a part of Stockport County. Ellis Taylor, a fellow academy graduate, also left today. The under-21 team, which Taylor was a key member of, advanced to the Premier League 2 play-off final before falling to Tottenham Hotspur.
With contracts set to expire on June 30, youth players Ben Creamer, Callum Wilson, Connor Pye, Daniel Obolo, Harry Gardiner, Jayden Sekete, Joe Ryder, Kailem Beattie, Michael Spellman, and Thomas Chiabi have also formally left Sunderland.
“Everyone at Sunderland AFC would like to thank our departing players for their professionalism and commitment and we wish them well for the future,” the statement from the club said when the retained list was revealed in May.
