It’s known who Newcastle will be taking in the opposite direction—it’s not Anthony Elanga—and the amount of money they will get from selling Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.

Elliot Anderson and Odysseas Vlachodimos

In an attempt to profit from academy graduate Anderson, who is expected to join Forest to assist with Profit and Sustainability compliance, Newcastle has reached an agreement. It follows his 55 Newcastle outings, of which all but two have occurred since his 2022 return from a Bristol Rovers loan.

Newcastle has agreed to transfer Anderson to Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton. Newcastle is aware that they must generate money by Sunday, the deadline for business in the 2023–24 football season, or else they risk a points deduction similar to the one Forest experienced last season.

Although Newcastle will pocket approximately £33 million from the Minteh deal, they are expected to receive £35 million from the Anderson one, matching Andy Carroll’s 2011 departure to Liverpool as their highest-ever sale.

As part of the Anderson operation, Newcastle will also receive the services of a player, whose value is yet unknown and will be acquired in a technically distinct transaction.

Only a year after moving to Forest, it was first thought that Anthony Elanga, a former forward for Manchester United, was being considered as a counterpart.

Rather, it’s another 2023 signing in the form of Odysseas Vlachodimos, who is actually expected to join Newcastle from Forest, as first disclosed by Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail.

New goalie to be signed by Newcastle
The goalie moved from Benfica to the Premier League in September of last year. But since then, he has only made seven appearances for Forest; last season, Matt Turner and Matz Sels both got more playing time in goal than he did.

Newcastle have been considering the addition of a new goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope, despite Martin Dubravka still having a year remaining on his contract, and recently turned their attention to Vlachodimos.

Things have accelerated quickly, as should be expected on a day like this with a deadline, and both Anderson and Vlachodimos have been booked in for medicals with their respective new clubs.

The Greek goalkeeper has accepted joining Newcastle, while it was already known that Anderson would be willing to join Forest.

Newcastle selling a player to Nottingham Forest isn’t too distant a memory, since the most recent example was Chris Wood in 2023. As for the other direction, Vlachodimos will become the first man to go from Forest to Newcastle since a double deal involving Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles in August 2014.

Vlachodimos is expected to sign with Newcastle as their second summer acquisition following the acquisition of Lloyd Kelly, whose Bournemouth contract expired.

Liverpool, who as TEAMtalk disclosed were considering making their own backup keeper Caoimhin Kelleher available to Newcastle in a cash-plus-player deal for Anthony Gordon, could be disappointed by the news.
