Nils Koppen, the head of recruiting for Glasgow Rangers, has been working hard to add fresh players to the squad throughout the summer transfer season.

Liam Kelly, Connor Barron, Oscar Cortes, Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, and Jefte have all signed contracts with the Scottish powerhouses, and Hamza Igamane is expected to follow.

Additionally, Theo Bair of Motherwell, Callum O’Hare, a free agent offensive midfielder, and Kenny McLean of Norwich have all been linked to the Light Blues.

A left-wing attacker who has been linked to the Gers is another player that could be Rabbi Matondo’s ideal companion down the left flank the next campaign.

The Rangers are considering free agent Whiz
Rangers are among the teams considering a potential summer raid to sign Ryan Sessegnon on a cheap free transfer, according to a recent HITC report.

The former England U21 international, who was formerly praised as “fantastic” by former coach Jose Mourinho, is reportedly available on a free agent after Tottenham Hotspur chose not to renew his contract with the Premier League team, according to the source.

A number of other clubs are reportedly interested in Philippe Clement, and Koppen has ‘checked in’ to see if he is available.

West Ham United, Fulham, Atalanta, Monzo, Leeds, and Real Betis, among others, are also said to be keeping a close eye on his situation as they weigh up a swoop for his services.

This shows that there is serious competition to land Sessegnon’s signature ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and it remains to be seen whether or not Rangers have a realistic chance of tempting him to make the move to Ibrox.

If the Scottish giants can convince him to link-up with Clement’s squad this year, though, then they could land a dream partner for Matondo on the wing.

Why Ryan Sessegnon would be a dream for Rabbi Matondo

The Wales international showed glimpses of his mercurial quality during the 2023/24 campaign as he scored five goals in seven league starts for the Light Blues.

Those five strikes came from an xG of just 2.93 and this speaks to the quality of his goals, with his trademark finish being a curling shot from distance after cutting in on his favoured foot.

Matondo loves to come in from the left flank to bend a shot into the far top corner, as you can see in the video above. Sessegnon’s presence may provide him additional opportunities to exploit that.

As you can see from the table above, the English full-back performed exceptionally well in the 2022–2023 Premier League season in a variety of attacking categories when compared to his positional contemporaries.

Before joining Spurs, Sessegnon had made 120 appearances for Fulham in all competitions, tallying 25 goals and 19 assists.

The risky free agent, who missed 40 games due to injury the previous season, is a left-back with the capacity to score and create goals and can rush forward to offer a potent offensive threat.

Because of this, opposing defenders might be more deliberate in marking him and tracking his runs. This could provide more space for Matondo, who could then take advantage of the defender’s attention being diverted from Sessegnon by cutting inside and scoring more goals from his preferred position.

Due to his potential at just 24 years old and his demonstrated attacking ability in the Premier League, the full-back would therefore be a fantastic free agent acquisition that might aid the Welshman in thriving.
