Since his arrival at Rangers back in 2022, Todd Cantwell has had something of a ‘topsy-turvy’ time.

The attacker has played a total of 64 games during his two-year tenure and has managed to contribute to a total of 26 goals.

Although the second half of the 2023/24 campaign was certainly stronger for the former Norwich man, the rumours around his future haven’t stopped.

In fact, thanks to his shameful latest social media antics in replying to a fan, it almost feels as if Cantwell himself has accepted that he will be leaving Ibrox this summer.

The 26-year-old hasn’t really settled into life in Scotland since his arrival and has often been criticised by both fans and the media for his off-pitch decorum.

In reality, it would be better for both the club and the player for him to ignore these types of comment but, as shown throughout his career, it’s unlikely that Cantwell would refrain from doing so.

Why Rangers should cut their losses and sell Todd Cantwell this summer

Since the end of last season, the former Bournemouth man’s future has been one that has been up in the air.

In fact, on 20 June it was reported that Philippe Clement’s side were “ready to listen to offers” for the attacker [Scottish Sun].

And, as Gers fans will know, their club is currently undergoing a mass change-up with five players already arriving permanently to bolster their ranks.

Although no further deals have been agreed in regard to departures or arrivals, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cantwell on his way out of Ibrox by the end of the window.

First-team regulars such as Kemar Roofe, Borna Barisic and John Lundstram have already left for pastures new and have left gaps for Clement to fill.

One positive about the departure of the attacker would be the fact that they’d get a decent fee that they could easily reinvest across the team in their bid for the Scottish Premiership title.

It is a decision that now seems pretty certain. In calling a fan a “weapon” on social media, Cantwell has signalled his farewell from Ibrox.
