According to CaughtOffside, Barcelona has extended a bid to West Ham United to sign Clement Lenglet at a reduced cost.

The news outlet claims on its website (June 30) that the Catalan club is pleased to let the France international go after loaning him out to Aston Villa and Tottenham throughout the previous two seasons.

With Julen Lopetegui eager to bolster the defense at the London Stadium, Barcelona is eager to get his £150,000 weekly salary off the books and think a deal with the Hammers may be reached.

Will Clement Lenglet join West Ham United?
With a bit of a scattergun approach, West Ham has been linked to players such as Ricardo Calafiori, Max Kilman, and Mats Hummels [HITC, 17 June], 18 June, and David Ornstein [18 June]. West Ham wants to add a new central defense.

However, the Hammers may need to start considering their options as discussions to sign the top target, Wolves captain, have proven difficult.

Lenglet’s salary may be an issue at the London Stadium, but if he is prepared to take a pay reduction, the transaction may make a lot of sense given the uncertain futures of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd [Hakim Zhouri, May 11].

With his experience in both the Premier League and the Champions League, the Frenchman should be able to adjust to Lopetegui’s preferred style of play thanks to his skill with the ball.

Although he isn’t the board’s main aim, it’s a deal to watch moving forward that they might decide to put on hold until they decide on other choices.
