After the game went into extra time on Sunday night, a bicycle kick by Jude Bellingham in the 95th minute prevented Martin Dubravka and Slovakia a historic victory over England in Euro 2024. Then, in the first minute of extra time, Harry Kane scored to send England to the quarterfinals.

Dubravka and the Slovakian team will now return home, while Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier will play against another well-known opponent as they travel to the quarterfinals with England. On Saturday night, Fabian Schar’s Switzerland defeated the defending champion Italy 2-0 to get to the quarterfinals.

Now Newcastle are guaranteed at least one player in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

After losing their first two group games against Brazil and Colombia, Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay became the first country on the other side of the Atlantic to be eliminated from the Copa America. Bruno Guimaraes, a midfielder for Newcastle, will be looking to win their last group stage encounter against Colombia in order to secure a trip to the quarterfinals with Brazil.

Brazil has a three-point advantage over Costa Rica in third place and a +6 goal differential, so even a loss should be enough to advance.

The Copa America and Euro 2024 both end on July 14.

Both Dubravka and Almiron have uncertain futures at Newcastle after returning to England, and they have been strongly linked to moves abroad this summer. Dubravka would not discuss his future at Euro 2024, but he has been linked to a move to Celtic, and the Saudi Pro League is interested in Miguel Almiron.

Due to the recent signings of goalkeepers John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos by Newcastle, Dubravka is now just one of five senior players who are under contract with the team. The 35-year-old spent much of the previous season playing for Newcastle, but after Nick Pope returns to full fitness, he probably wants to play regularly in the first team. Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier of England have also been connected to transfers abroad this summer. The Saudi Pro League is interested in Trippier because he is nearing the end of his Newcastle deal, and Liverpool is considering Gordon because he is reportedly eager to rejoin his childhood team.
