Ipswich have made a verbal offer to Tottenham for Joe Rodon in a bid to beat Leeds United to his signature, according to Alasdair Gold.

Writing on his personal X account (30 June), the Football.London journalist reports that the offer isn’t formal or in writing, but Spurs have received it as they look to cash in on the Wales star.

Rodon spent the 2023/24 season at Elland Road and became a key player under Daniel Farke, but after the club failed to earn promotion to the Premier League his chances of a return have been rated as “slim” [Football London, 16 June] despite interest from both parties to make the deal permanent.

Leeds United must prioritise Joe Rodon replacement

The performance of Leeds United in the Championship last season was arguably enough to make the Premier League but for two stunning campaigns by Leicester and Ipswich and an underwhelming playoff final.

That has put them at risk of losing a host of key stars in the summer transfer window with the likes of Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville expected to move on [Phil Hay, 27 May], and lots of interest in other players.

But Rodon was never their player and it is now going to be extremely difficult to convince the Wales international to return to the club without top-flight football while he has offers from Premier League clubs.

Ipswich have now firmed up their interest and with Leicester and Southampton both also keen, Leeds have been dealt a major blow and alternative plans will surely have to be drawn up now.

Centre-back is a key position and with Liam Cooper’s future also up in the air, it should be the priority of Farke and the 49ers to find an adequate replacement for him to ensure the team isn’t left short.
