Leeds United almost sold Charlie Cresswell to French club Toulouse on Monday before a deal collapsed over personal terms, and he’s back at pre-season training with the club for now.

The Whites have seen the first group of players return to pre-season training this week with intense preparations underway for the start of next season’s Championship campaign.

As we’ve already seen through Archie Gray’s exit, changes are afoot in Daniel Farke’s squad, as well as some fringe players being subject to strong interest.

Charlie Cresswell’s Toulouse transfer collapses despite passing medical

Talks to see Charlie Cresswell leave the club ramped up last week, with Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse pursuing a permanent transfer.

A £3.8million transfer looked to be agreed by all parties as the England U21 international headed to France to complete a medical.

However, it was revealed by Adam Pope on Monday evening that the deal fell through due to personal terms not being agreed between Cresswell and the club:

Georginio Rutter reacts with delight seeing Cresswell in Leeds’ pre-season day one

Leeds have released footage from day one of pre-season at Thorp Arch, where testing was underway for those that reported back, including Georginio Rutter and Cresswell.

As ever, Rutter was a bundle of energy as he greeted his teammates in the Thorp Arch grounds, but it appears as though he wasn’t expecting to see Cresswell back.

It’s clear the club are happy to let the centre-back leave if the right fee comes in for him in the coming months.

Toulouse looked like they had him signed when he flew out for a medical, but there must have been something play out to see them pull the plug.

It’s a shame that a year on from him signing a new deal, he’s well out on the fringes and unlikely to have a future here.
