Rangers transfer target Albert Sambi Lokonga looks set to leave Arsenal to join Sevilla with a deal moving closer, according to HITC.
The online outlet reported (2 July) that the 24-year-old has “agreed terms” with Sevilla, who are closing on a deal to sign him from Arsenal.
The report adds that Rangers had looked to be going head-to-head with Old Firm rivals Celtic over a move for the Belgian this summer.
It has also been suggested that he had options to stay in the Premier League with Leicester City and Southampton but has opted for a LaLiga move.
Albert Sambi Lokonga snubs Rangers
The Gers have been looking to rebuild their squad as they look to deal with a high number of departures since the end of last season.
The midfield is a particular area of concern following the departures of John Lundstram and Ryan Jack at the end of their contracts.
This has seen Philippe Clement look at his options in the transfer market to add to his squad and prepare his side to challenge Celtic next campaign.
The Belgian has already added Connor Barron to his squad on a free transfer, which has been a positive start to the window.
Now they have taken a slight step back having been seemingly turned down by Lokonga, who has opted for a move to Spain.
The Belgian didn’t have the best season as Luton Town got relegated and upon his return to Arsenal, it’s no surprise that they wanted to cut ties.
Ibrox would have been a great move for the 24-year-old, but he has decided to go another way with his career.
