A Leicester City summer transfer target has been impressive despite his nation’s poor performances at Copa America this summer.
After the departure of manager Enzo Maresca and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea, Leicester City fans can now start to look ahead to the new season.
They will be hoping that new manager Steve Cooper will be able to reinvest at least some of the £30 million pound Chelsea paid for Dewsbury-Hall; the sale necessary to ease PSR concerns.
It looks as though there will be some money available this summer, with it reported that Leicester have had an initial bid of £15 million rejected for Talleres winger Ramon Sosa.
The Argentine club are said to be holding out for the 24-year-old’s £15.7 million release clause and Sosa’s Copa America display against Costa Rica has shown fans he could be worth every penny.
Leicester City target Ramon Sosa scored for Paraguay in Copa America
Sosa is a tricky winger with an eye for goal, with his seven goals and six assists in 21 games for Talleres this season evidence of that.
The club season has been halted in South America to allow the Copa America to be played and Sosa has been part of a Paraguay side which have disappointed.
Sosa provided an assist in the first group game against Colombia before coming off the bench to provide in a 4-1 defeat to Brazil in the second game.
It was in the final group game against Costa Rica in which he really stood out, though, despite Paraguay losing 2-1 and crashing out of the tournament.
Sosa follow up his assist against Brazil with a stunning strike from outside the box into the top corner of the Costa Rica goal, but undeservedly ended the night on the losing team.
In the aftermath of the game, Sosa was dubbed the ‘best’ Paraguay player of the group stage, with Paraguayan journalist Fernando Norio Medina claiming via Impact Deportivo on ‘X’: “Ramon Sosa was the best in the qualifying round and on the other hand there is a lot of anger with Miguel Almiron for his performance.”
Sosa’s game by numbers v Costa Rica
Sosa scored his first senior international goal with his strike against Costa Rica, but it was not just his goal that made him stand out in the game in Texas.
Sosa was a constant threat playing on the left wing, giving Leicester fans a taste of what they can expect should the club secure a deal this summer.
The winger was not just impressive on the eye but he posted some impressive statistics on the night too.
According to Sofascore, Sosa scored from registering an xG of just 0.14, whilst he made two key passes and maintained a pass completion rate of 84%; an impressive number given attacking players generally have lower pass accuracy as they try to create.
He was constantly involved and had 69 touches in the match, completing three dribbles in the process.
A standout performer despite his country’s early tournament exit, Sosa showed he has the ability to light up the King Power next season.
