Sergio Gomez wants to join Real Sociedad despite the transfer encountering delays, while West Ham United are still interested.

According to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, Sergio Gomez would prefer a move to Real Sociedad as he seems destined to leave Manchester City. The Spanish defender’s transfer to Real Sociedad may have encountered some delays, as West Ham United are also sniffing around for the 23-year-old left-back.

Sergio Gomez to leave Manchester City?

Going by the minutes, Sergio Gomez played for Manchester City last season; it’s crystal clear that Pep Guardiola will have no qualms about letting him leave. The 23-year-old’s career is yet to take off properly, and he will feel the need to play regularly at a good enough club.

Manchester City reportedly paid a €15 million fee and would like to recoup that by selling the left-back, though there are doubts whether interested clubs are willing to fork out that much. In fact, there were reports that Real Sociedad were closing in on a €9 million agreement with Manchester City, although that might yet be a window of opportunity for other sides to swoop in.

There’s an apparent delay in the transfer dealing between Real Sociedad and Manchester City, as the report suggests other sides can now possibly explore their chances. West Ham are reportedly interested and could make do with a player who has been coached by Guardiola despite his limited experience in the Premier League.

The Hammers are in the market for a new left-back to add cover to the position and might see Gomez fit due to his attacking profile and price point. Other teams like AC Milan, Roma, and Real Betis are keen, although the 23-year-old Manchester City defender may have already chosen his next destination.

Sergio Gomez wants Real Sociedad move

Real Sociedad initiated discussions for Gomez a while back and are currently favourites to land the left-back despite an apparent delay in the transfer. Opening the door for West Ham might have allowed the 23-year-old Manchester City defender to stay in the Premier League, although the style of football here may not suit the left-back.

Heading back to Spain might be good for his career, especially in a team like Sociedad, which has become a regular fixture in European competitions lately. Hence, for other reasons as well, Gomez reports that he prefers a move back to his homeland and would like to try out for Sociedad.
