Scott Wright’s Rangers exit and move to Sheffield Wednesday is close to completion and could be finalised in hours, according to The Fourth Official.

The outlet reported via its YouTube channel (4 July) that the winger who the Light Blues are willing to listen to offers for this summer is closing in on a move to Hillsborough as talks continue between all parties.

Wright only has a year left on his deal in Glasgow but has been targeted by the Owls during the transfer window with reports suggesting their manager Danny Rohl is an admirer of the Scottish winger [Daily Record, 29 June].

Speaking on YouTube, the Fourth Official said: “My understanding is that, that is a deal close to completion and that may well be completed over the next 48 hours or so.”

Will Scott Wright exit Rangers amid Sheffield Wednesday transfer links?

Wright’s exit has been in the offing for a while at Rangers as it was clear during Philippe Clement’s first season in Glasgow that he didn’t believe the Scotsman had what it took to be a regular starter in the biggest matches.

The Belgian wasn’t afraid to leave the winger out repeatedly last term, particularly in big games where he was often either rooted to the bench or nowhere near the matchday squad which was the writing on the wall for his future.

Some will argue that he still has something to offer in a Rangers shirt, but with Oscar Cortes’ loan in Glasgow now extended and further new arrivals expected in the coming weeks, his minutes would be incredibly limited.

By selling him now, the Gers have an opportunity to cash in on his services (even if for a potentially small fee) rather than letting him walk away for nothing come the end of next season and the expiry of his contract.

If this deal is as close to its completion as has been reported, it is excellent business for the Light Blues and they should be applauded for learning from their past mistakes under different management.
