In a recent tweet, Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna claimed that West Ham United are set to rival Chelsea for Corinthians forward Wesley Gassova this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers have made an offer for the Brazilian talent but are facing competition from the Blues as well as Nice and AS Roma in pursuit of him.

Wesley’s Impressive Form In Brazilian Football

Wesley came through the youth ranks of Corinthians and has done well to establish himself as an important member of their senior team. The 19-year-old has already played in 72 senior matches for the Brazilian outfit thus far, scoring seven goals and securing a couple of assists across all competitions

The Brazilian sensation was a reliable performer in the final third as he averaged 1.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 3.2 dribbles per game in the Brasileirao. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 81.9% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Brazilian club will expire at the end of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Hammers to arrange a cut-price move for him later this year.

Is Wesley A Good Choice For West Ham United?

Wesley excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. The Brazilian youngster is a technically gifted footballer. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth in the Premier League.

At 19, Wesley has the potential to be a future star in England. Therefore, he would be a great choice for West Ham in the long run. Wesley is already good enough to serve as a rotational piece in Julen Lopetegui’s match-day squad next season.

However, the Hammers need to be patient with his progress before he can perform at a high level for their senior team. With all things considered, Lopetegui should focus on bringing Wesley to the London Stadium in this summer transfer period.
